Fahrenheit 451 Close Reading Questions

1.       Why do you think it was a pleasure to burn?  Is it pleasurable to destroy? What about delete? Discuss.

2.       Draw a picture from the opening scene or any part of what we have read thus far.

3.       Compare and contrast Montag’s interactions with Clarisse and his home. How is his home described?  What is a mausoleum, and why might Montag’s home be described that way?

4.       Mildred’s face is described as a “snow colored island upon which rain might fall, but she felt no rain.” Why such a metaphor. Discuss the ironies in the metaphor and why it might be appropriate for Mildred.
