English Ten Period 2

On Tuesday of next week, you will be writing your first In-Class Essay Assessment of The Short Stories we have read thus far.  Today, you will finish reading "Greenleaf" by Flannery O'Connor. I will not read to you so that you can develop your own reading stamina.  To help guide your reading, please respond to the following while reading:
How can we tell that Mr. Greenleaf is proud of his sons? How can we tell that Mrs. May isn't? Why should Mr. Greenleaf be proud of his sons? What do Mrs. May's sons do? Why wasn't being a life insurance salesman such a positive job in the context of the story? Visit this short article to understand why: http://www.post-gazette.com/business/businessnews/2011/08/14/Why-African-Americans-are-so-loyal-to-life-insurance/stories/201108140272
How did Mrs. May and her family get to the South on a Farm anyways? What happened to her husband.
Describe Mr. Greenleaf's boys, and their family.  How did they rise of the social ranks.  Were Mrs. May's children able to serve in the armed services?  Do you think Mrs. May wants us to pity her?
When did you know that Mrs. May is not just bothered by the Greenleaf bull--but that something else bothered her?
