English Ten period 3

1. Be sure to have fully completed translating Cassius speech to Brutus.  Then, are re-reading it, carefully complete a SOAPS based on the speech.
2. Keep working on your essay. Be sure to send it to me no later than Sunday 7pm. I will provide feedback to all students by Sunday evening, and please be prepared to print out the essay, with my suggestions for Monday. Please do not send your essay twice, unless requested.

ERWC Period 1

Answer the following questions on your own paper. If you type the answer, you must print out. Do not email these to me. There will be a reading quiz on Monday. Answering the Questions will help you study. Be sure to also re-read carefully, scenes 1-2
1. When Kent states "I thought the King had more affected (likes or prefers) the Duke of Albany than Cornwall, and when Gloucester agrees and states, "It did always seem so to us, but now in the division of the kingdom, it appears not which of the dukes he values most...." a set of expectations is created.  What is the expectation, and how does King Lear, through his actions defy it?
2. When Lear says, "Meantime, we shall express our darker purpose--" what do you think he means? Why does he use the word, "darker"?
3. He asks for a map.  Why is a map an excellent symbol for what will follow in terms of the ceremony and the characters actions?
4. What does Lear do to Kent?  What does it reveal about the human condition that Lear does this when Kent was attempting to point out a flaw?
5. Why does the King of France choose to marry Cordelia, despite the fact that she has been stripped of her dowry? What does this reveal about the King of France's character?
6. How can we the audience tell that Goneril and Reagan know that Lear most loved Cordelia? (Please cite the text, or quote for this answer)
7. Discuss the impact of the closeness in age between Edmund and Edgar. Why is it symbolic that their names both begin with the same two letters?

ERWC Period 1 and English Ten Period 3

Period 1: Please continue to review the feedback that I am providing on your essay. In order to get points, you must respond and or/repair to the edits and feedback I make. If I have not made edits by 5:15 pm, please check again early morning, as I am making edits for two classes.  Please bring charged chromebooks tomorrow; and King Lear. We will have a brief team building exercise. To those student who did not submit essays to me by Wednesday, I will not be able to provide electronic feedback to you.
Period 3: Please finish your translation of Cassius remarks to Brutus. Also, begin to check your emails for the feedback given you regarding your essays.

ERWC period 1

1. Carefully read the Article of the week, "The Power of Birth Order". Ten points will be given for full annotation of at least twn vocabulary words, underlining main idea in each sentence.
2. SOAPS Sheet for the Article, plus the Levels of Questions assigned in previous post.
3. Your literature Circle role Sheet and 3 new journal entries are due tomorrow! Be sure to include page numbers, quotes, and Literature Circle Journal Week #6 at the top of your first entry. Remember: Literature Circle Role Sheets must be a full page and include all parts to get a full ten points. I do see class improvement on journals!
3. Be sure (period 6 only) to send me your draft of your "Are Families Dangerous?" Synthesis essay tonight by 7pm. LGUY@LAUSD.NET In order to get credit for peer editing, you must respond to the edits/comments/ suggestions I make by tomorrow 7pm. Final drafts are due Friday for Period 6.

1. Carefully read/annotate Article of the Week, "The Power of Birth Order" Complete A SOAPS Sheet, which is uploaded, and create 2 Level 1 Questions; 2 Level 2 Questions and 2 Level 3 Questions.
2. Create your academic summary for the Article of the Week: "The Power of Birth Order" and post to your blog.
3. Study for Unit Exam
4. Check your Gmail for feedback received from me.  Final drafts of essay are due on Thursday, February 18th.
