Comparing and Contrasting the Speeches

Who's speech was more persuasive? Why do you think so?
What impact does showing Caesar's body have on the crowd? What other "props" does Mark Antony refer to that increases the impact of his speech? Whose speech appeals more to your heart/emotion? Whose appeals more to logic? Why should a funeral speech appeal to emotion? What is the outcome of Antony's speech? Why do you think Antony keeps calling Brutus honorable? Does he really mean?

English Ten period 3

Dear Students,
Thank you for being on your best behavior while I am out today. Please follow this agenda.
1. Silent Sustained Reading of Independent Reading Novel: 10 minutes.
2. Complete one journal entry based off of your reading.
3. Complete Julius Caesar Crossword Puzzle.
4. Watch Julius Caesar from the beginning of the film to the speeches. Stop right after Antony's funeral speech. Then respond: Why is Antony's funeral speech so much better than Brutus'?
What mistakes did Brutus make, and how now is apparent?

ERWC Period 1

Today, you will watch King Lear. As you watch the play, respond to the following:
1. Pay careful attention to the emotions of the actresses playing Goneril, Regan and Cordelia.  How can the audience tell or even guess that Reagan especially really was speechless, and didn't know what to say when Lear asks her to express her love?
2.  What expressions and emotions does Lear project and Cordelia that help us to see that Lear really is hurt (disappointed) by Cordelia's words?
3. How can we tell that Cordelia does regret her statements? Describe her facial expressions and movement.
4. Describe Lear's reaction to the fools first song.  Contrast that to Lear's reaction when the Fool pats his hair and splits the egg. Does Lear seem to begin to understand the Fool's Words?
5. Identify one scene from the play that really helps you understand the emotions of a character of your choice.
6. Finally, reflect: How does viewing the play communicate an added layer of meaning (Better help you understand)? Discuss.
