English Ten Period 6

1. Summarize Creon's speech to Haimon. When does it become clear that Creon is motivated by public interest? What tragic flaw or error in reasoning is prevalent in Creon's speech?
Summarize Haimon's speech to his father. Explain his use of metaphor. Is Haimon's speech effective? IS his tone respectful? How can we tell? What news does Haimon reveal?
2. Continue researching on your historical biographical narrative.

English Ten Period 2

1. Don't forget to re-read, "Why Don't We Complain" and bring the article.
2. Respond to the question: Do you feel that technology has made us helpless and apathetic towards issues that should matter? Do we complain less about important matters because of technology? Defend your answer.

1. Prepare for a reading quiz on Drama Terms; Antigone Prologue and Scene 1; Verbal Irony; either Tuesday or Wednesday.
2. New Journal Covers are on the way!!!!
3. Be sure to have your novel for silent sustained reading on Thursday.

English Ten period 6

1. Finish your Academic Summary; your SOAPS or your Article of the Week.
2. Begin researching a person of interest for the Historical Investigative Report. The following are individuals who committed acts of Civil Disobedience and "stood their ground". Many were harmed or even died as a result of their resistance: Viola Liuzzo; Paul Guihard; Rev. Bruce Klunder; James Earl Chaney; Andrew Goodman; Henry Schwerner; Niya Kenny; Claudette Colvin; Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali); Sylvia Mendez; Ron McNair; Ramsey Orta; Elias Gonzalez; Melba Patillo Beals. Many of the above participated in the Civil Rights Movement. Additional names will be added.  You may also self select an individual. I will approve all student names by Friday, November 4th.
