1. What ironic surprise awaits the EDS pilot about the stowaway? How does this surprise complicate the decision that the EDS pilot must make? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.
2. Why do you think the narrator provides us with a description of what the stowaway looks like? What is this supposed to do for us as readers?
3. How can we tell that the EDS does not want to follow the rules? What does he do?
4. What does the stowaway think the punishment will be for breaking the rule?
5. Please use your vocabulary sheet to look up definitions of the words: increments; recoiled; paramount; annihilate; irrevocable; and or immutable. Definitions should be short. Include a sentence, using The Cold Equations, if possible.
