Remember, that your Independent Reading Journal is due on Monday, January 12th. No LATE JOURNALS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Tenth Grade English Classes (Periods 4&5)

1. During the week of Thanksgiving you are required to write in your journal two times--on one of the previously released academic topics, and then on Friday, for your traditional Friday Freewrite. 2. Additionally, I will allow all students in my period 4 and 5 classes to complete the Additional Thanksgiving Break Slave Narrative Assignment, and selected students in period 3. The assignment instructions can be found under Classroom Readings and Handouts. I included links to the PDFs as well.

English Ten Period 5

1. Complete the Questions to Encourage Reflection 1-10. Write out your responses based on the event or incident that you have chosen for either your Chapter 2 or your Chapter 3. You must answer all questions. 2. Finish drafting your Chapter 2 or Chapter 3. 3. Finish read ALL of Chapter 10 of the Narrative of Frederick Douglass. Your Chapter 1 Final Draft is due typed on Friday, November 21st.

Honors English Ten Period 3

1. Read the Essay: "A Way of Writing" by William Stafford. Highlight and underline key parts of the essay. Be able to answer the following questions: Why is writing one of the great human activities? What is Stafford's purpose for writing? 2. Finish answering Questions to Encourage Reflection for your Chapter 2 or Chapter 3. Finish the rough draft for that chapter. Bring in both. 3. English Ten Periods 3, 4, and 5-- Drawing A Scene from the Narrative of Frederick Douglass

Chapters Nine and Ten of The Narrative of Frederick Douglass have a lot of imagery, as well as scenes, as well of instances in which one event causes another. Select a passage; or series of passages from Chapter 9 or 10 (or another Chapter) and draw/create an illustration of that scene. If you have more than one scene, you may create a series of pictures on one page. Your picture or image or series of scenes must be on plain white paper. You must use color--either colored pencils, markers or crayons. Your drawing must use the entire sheet of paper. First plan out a scene or scenes. It must be something reflected in the text, or how you imagine/visualize it to be. Due tomorrow November 18, (for periods 3, and 5; due Wednesday for period 4.

Using your SOAPS Sheet for your Chapter of The Narrative of Frederick Douglass. Using your SOAPS Answer the following question in at least a paragraph: What are the big ideas that Frederick introduces in this chapter? How does Frederick communicate these ideas? Does he use examples, quotes?

Reflective Journal: Reflect on your viewing of the first part of Slavery and the Making of America. Write a one page reflection in which you answer the following questions: What did I learn about slavery that I had never known or learned before? What parts of the video surprised you?
