English Ten Period All Classes

English Ten-- Remember to read ten to 20 pages of your Independent Reading Novel and make journal entries EVEN WHEN YOU MIGHTNOT PHYSICALLY HAVE YOUR JOURNAL. Simply fold a sheet of paper in half, select your quote, include the page number and respond in one half page. Be sure to include a vocabulary word; its definition and use in a sentence at the bottom of your entry. This way you will not get behind on your entries! Period 5- Article of the Week SOAPS and Summary/Reflection due Wednesday.

1. Be sure to finish your précis for the "How to Be AN Active Reader" article. It is a 4-6 sentence summary of the author's main points and purpose. 2. Respond to the following writing prompt: Write about a Journey/Quest that YOU or A Family member has taken. Perhaps it was a journey to learning how to do something; or a trip from another state or country. What obstacles did you encounter? Discuss. 3. Don't forget to keep reading in your Independent Reading Novel.

English Ten Periods 3, and 5

Now that you have written a letter to a close friend, loved one or sibling about a topic, talent or interest or hobby that you have, you will write ANOTHER letter. Select one of the following audiences for your letter: Dr. Woods (Principal) or Mr. Lewis or Mr. Park (Assistant Principals; OR a student in the third (3rd) or fourth (4th) grade; or a potential employer. Write a new letter to the audience that you select. You will need to make changes perhaps in organization, how you use language in your letter to your new audience. It may be shorter or longer than your original letter. Be sure thought, that you discuss the same talent, hobby, interest or skill that you have in the second letter as well. Your letter may be handwritten or typed.

English Ten Periods 3, 4 and 5.

Think of a subject, or hobby, or interest that you have, and have some experience with. Compose a letter to a friend, close friend, in which you discuss/describe your hobby, talent, interest or experience. Your letter should be a full page long, and should have at least one FULL paragraph devoted to a discussion of your talent; hobby, interest.

For our next class, please peruse the introduction of our Critical Thinking Text, and complete the following exercises 1.4 pg xxviii, 1.7, pg. xxxii. read and annotate all of Chapter 1 paying careful attention to pages 22-23. complete exercise 1.6 on page 12; and 1.9 on page 18.
